Sun to Surf Half Marathon Cut Off Times
For the purposes of traffic management timeframes and marshal safety the maximum allowable time to complete the Sun to Surf Half Marathon is 5 hours. As the event will start at 3pm this will mean all runners and walkers need to be finished by 8pm.
In order for this to happen there will be generous times in place at two cut off points in the first 11km of the event that participants need to meet to be able to continue to the finish.
Top of Hillcrest Road junction with Ōhope Road – 4.10pm
Whakatane Surf Club – 5.20pm
These times are based on the event starting at 3pm. The times represent a walking pace of approximately 12 minutes 30 seconds per kilometre but also allowing for the fact that there is a sizeable hill in the first 5.165km of the event route.
The event organisers also reserve the right to ask participants who make the first two cut offs but then slow to a kilometre rate that won’t have them complete the event by 8pm.
If you are in this situation please respect the request to conclude your official participation in the event.
There are no cut off times for the Surf Strider 10km or Sun Run & Walk 5km events.
Note: all participants who are still out on the course at 7pm when the event prize giving commences at Surf & Sand will still be eligible for spot prizes providing they finish within the allotted time.
Event Aid Stations
There will be four aid stations with water and PURE electrolyte drink in the Sun to Surf Half Marathon mid way Hillcrest Road, Whakatane Surf Club, at entrance to Harbourside Trail and at the front of Top 10 Holiday Park. There will be two aid stations with water and PURE electrolyte drink in the Surf Strider 10km at entrance to Harbourside Trail and at the front of Top 10 Holiday Park.
